Getting Nothing Done Is Very Productive
The art of rest and patience.
This has been a very challenging week.
Firstly, I decided that I would start writing daily posts this week (at the time of writing this article). What I didn’t think of at the time was that I would be on vacation the next week, so I had to double up on all of my posts the week before and schedule them.
Obviously, this has been very challenging as I’m writing 12 times as many newsletters this week as I normally do.
I’m also almost done with the first draft of Ravengard.
However, I’m taking a rest today.
Why?
Because at this point, I know when I’m on the verge of burnout.
Burning out only slows things down more than if you just take a little breather. Slowing down and taking a breath usually makes things go faster in the long run.
Back the point up
It’s easy to think that more work means more productivity, and it kind of does. I’m certainly not advocating for sitting back and expecting problems to solve themselves.
But this is also an easy trap to fall into.
If we’re go, go, go all the time and don’t take any time to rest, recharge, and repair, we’re going to crash and burn. Hard.
When you’re on a long drive, do you just drive all day without any stops, or do you refuel every once in a while?
If you don’t stop to refuel, you’ll probably find yourself stranded in the middle of the highway somewhere, waiting for someone to help you out. You might have just cost yourself another day. That time is lost because you were in too much of a hurry to stop.
But if you had stopped to refuel, you would have reached your destination faster.
Why does it matter?
Writing is its own reward, and I’m successful because I have the opportunity, knowledge, and passion to write stories. I couldn’t ask for anything more.
However, I would like to try to make this my job so that I can write more stories and provide for a potential family in the future.
So, to that end, I need to remember to slow down every once in a while.
This is something I’ve struggled with a lot in the past, but I think I’m getting the hang of things now. I’ve recognized this time that I’m close to burnout, so I’ve backed off today.
Not totally. I still have some articles to write. But a lot of the way.
From Ravengard, especially.
But don’t worry. The first draft will be done very, very soon, and then I can edit and publish.
I’m very excited for this book, and I hope you are too. I have plenty of other books on Amazon, so why not give them a read while you’re waiting?
Thanks for reading. There are plenty of other articles like this, so subscribe and get them sent straight to your inbox.

Doing this right now, lol. I can be productive after vacation.
